Our cardiology team takes the confusion out of navigating complex heart health issues. Cardiology specialists treat a wide variety of heart ailments including valve disease, heart muscle disease, congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure, irregular heart beats, and some types of lung disease that may affect the heart. Our veterinary cardiologist uses advanced diagnostic testing to uncover the source of your pet’s problem, and is dedicated to guiding you through the best possible treatment plan in a compassionate way.
Diagnosing Heart Disease
Our cardiac services include state-of-the-art equipment to detect and monitor cardiac issues, including:
- Doppler echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound)
- Digital radiography (x-rays)
- Electrocardiography (ECG, EKG)
- Blood pressure measurements
- Telemetry (constant ECG monitoring)
- Holter monitors
- Fluoroscopy (motion x-rays)
While some heart defects may benefit from interventional procedures, other types of heart disease may be managed with medications. Interventional cardiology includes the correction of cardiac disorders by passage of catheters and/or instruments into the beating heart. These procedures include patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure, balloon dilation of valve stenosis, and pacemaker implantation. Whether the treatment is interventional or medical, the goal for treating heart disease in animals is to extend the length of life while maintaining its quality. Our cardiologist will continue to re-evaluate your pet to make sure this goal is being met.
